I found that a more permanent and secure mounting was needed for my solar panels so I decided to mount it to the roof. The roof of my house is a 'concrete tile' roof so this method of mounting may not work for other types of roofs. The mounting is very simple; straight shelving brackets are used to 'brace' across the panels and at the end of these brackets are drilled holes for large (350mm long by 12mm at least) bolts to go through. Holes in the roof are drilled; not appropriate for some types of roofs, preferably going through rafters to secure it to the roof. The bolts are liberally covered in silicone sealant and pushed through the brackets and the roofs and are bolted on with a spreader plate on the other side to spread the load. The cable was brought in through the same hole made to get the cable to the TV antenna through.
WARNING: The panels were installed by a professional builder. I will take no responsibility for any damage to roofs caused by the use of this mounting method. This page is provided simply for informational purposes.
